FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing (PGT)

Preimplantation Genetic Testing, also known as PGT, is a procedure used during IVF to assess embryos for genetic abnormalities before transfer. It helps identify embryos with normal genetic makeup and supports the selection of embryos with the best chance of healthy development and implantation.

PGT is commonly used to reduce the risk of transferring embryos affected by certain genetic or chromosomal abnormalities. This can help improve treatment planning and reduce the likelihood of complications linked to abnormal embryo development.

When Is Pre-implantation Genetic Testing Considered?

The main types of PGT include:

Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A)
Used to check whether an embryo has the correct number of chromosomes.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic Disorders (PGT-M)
Used when there is a known risk of passing on a specific inherited genetic condition.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Structural Chromosomal Rearrangements (PGT-SR)
Used to detect embryos affected by structural chromosome abnormalities such as translocations or inversions.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) at Nordica Fertility Centre

At Nordica Fertility Centre, PGT is carried out as part of a carefully planned IVF process for patients who may benefit from genetic screening before embryo transfer. The procedure involves testing embryos prior to implantation so that the most suitable embryos can be selected for transfer based on their genetic status.
