Gynaecological endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the female reproductive system, including infertility, endometrial polyps, fibroids, and other uterine or pelvic conditions.
It also offers a less invasive approach to fibroid removal without the need for open surgery. In laparoscopic myomectomy, fibroids are removed through very small incisions, while hysteroscopic myomectomy allows treatment without any external incision.
Recovery after endoscopic gynaecological surgery is usually quicker than with conventional surgery. Patients often spend less time in the hospital and can return to daily activities sooner.
Because these procedures are minimally invasive, the risk of post-operative infection and complications is generally lower than with open surgery.er than with conventional surgery. Patients often spend less time in the hospital and can return to daily activities sooner.
Laparoscopy is performed using a thin instrument called a laparoscope, which is inserted through a small incision just below the navel. It is used for both diagnosis and treatment of several fertility and gynaecological conditions.
Laparoscopy may be used to:
Diagnose and treat blocked tubes
Remove adhesion bands around the fallopian tubes or ovaries
Remove or treat endometriosis
Treat anovulation linked to PCOS through ovarian drilling
Remove fibroids
Hysteroscopy is used to inspect the inside of the uterus in order to diagnose and treat abnormalities. The procedure is carried out using a hysteroscope, a thin lighted tube inserted through the vagina to examine the cervix and uterine cavity.
Hysteroscopy may be used to:
Diagnose and treat Asherman’s syndrome
Diagnose and remove submucous fibroids or endometrial polyps within the uterine cavity
Dilate the cervix in cases of cervical stenosis
Remove an embedded intrauterine device
Correct a uterine septum dividing the uterine cavity
