EmbryoGlue is a specialised embryo transfer medium used during the final stage of IVF treatment. It is designed to closely resemble the natural environment of the womb and may help support successful embryo implantation after transfer.
Despite the name, EmbryoGlue is not a glue in the usual sense. It contains a substance called hyaluronan, which plays an important role in embryo development and implantation. Hyaluronan helps create a more supportive environment for the embryo and may improve its ability to attach to the lining of the womb. The medium also contains nutrients such as carbohydrates, amino acids, and proteins that help support the embryo at this important stage.
EmbryoGlue may be beneficial for many patients undergoing IVF treatment, especially those who may need extra implantation support. While it can be used more broadly in IVF cycles that involve embryo transfer, it has been shown to be particularly helpful in selected groups such as older patients, those with previous implantation failure, and those with unexplained infertility.
What Does EmbryoGlue Involve?
EmbryoGlue is used only at the embryo transfer stage of treatment. Just before transfer, the embryo is placed in the specialised transfer medium containing hyaluronan and implantation supporting proteins. The embryo is then transferred into the womb in the usual way.
