At Nordica Fertility Centre, Lagos, Nigeria, we perform endoscopic or “minimally invasive” surgery for women who require it.
What Is Endoscopy
Endoscopy means looking inside and typically refers to looking inside the body for medical reasons using an endoscope, a fibre optic instrument used to examine the interior of a hollow organ or cavity of the body.
There are varying types of endoscopy procedures and usually are named after the cavity or hollow organ being investigated. However the ones commonly used in gynecological cases are the laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.
Hysteroscopy :Hysteroscopy involves the passage of a telescope through the vagina and cervix into the uterine cavity. It is mainly used to assess the condition of the inside of the uterus. Surgical procedures like the removal of fibroids, polyps and breakdown of uterine adhesions (Asherman’s syndrome) can be done through hysteroscopy.
Laparoscopy involves passage of a telescope through a tiny incision just below the navel. It is used to assess the pelvic organs (tubo-peritoneal factor), to diagnose the presence or absence of adhesions, endometriosis or other pelvic abnormalities. Some surgical procedures can also be performed laparoscopically.

- The recovery from endoscopic gynaecological surgery is faster and the patients stay in the medical centre for a very short period of time thereby allowing her to quickly return to daily living after the operation
