PICSI

PICSI

Physiological Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (PICSI)
Physiological Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (PICSI) is a scientific technique used in Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) to isolate better quality sperm before it is injected into an embryo. In Physiological Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection mimicking the natural way a sperm attaches to the egg; where it binds to a molecule on the egg surface called hyaluronan is the aim. Sperm is placed in the PICSI dish with samples of a special ‘hyaluronan hydrogel’ and the most mature and competent sperm (those which bind to the hyaluronan) are then isolated and used for ICSI. Research has proven that PICSI-selected sperms are, in the vast majority of cases, more mature, exhibit less DNA damage, and have fewer chromosomal aneuploidies. PICSI technique also improves pregnancy rates and reduces the number of IVF miscarriages.

PICSI Success Rates

PICSI increases the success rate of pregnancy by approximately 20% because it makes it possible to select and introduce sperm to the egg based on its functional quality. This method works on the same principle by which sperms are selected in a woman’s body within the natural fertilization process.
